Seafood

“Seafood” was shot on DV and subsequently transferred to film. It premiered at the 2001 Venice International Film Festival, winning the Silver Lion in the Contemporary Film section. It was screened at the Youth Forum of the Berlin International Film Festival the following year.
For various reasons, the film was never completed as Zhu Wen intended. Aside from a few screenings at film festivals, it has remained largely undistributed. Recently, director Zhu Wen finally completed a digital restoration, completing all the missing work. This will be the first time the film is presented to the public in its entirety.
The film’s screenwriter and director Zhu Wen, starring Jin Zi, photographer Liu Yonghong, and composer Yang Haisong will attend the premiere.

In the icy emptiness of Beidaihe, far from Beijing’s bustle, Xiaomei — a young prostitute — arrives with only one plan: to end her life. But her solitude is broken by Deng Jianguo, a gruff local policeman who discovers her intent. With stubborn persistence, Deng trails her every step, coaxing her with seafood meals, blocking her attempts, and forcing her back into life. What begins as surveillance twists into an uneasy, ambiguous connection — part rescue, part entrapment.
Filmed in the dead of winter during the region’s heaviest snowfall in two decades, Seafood is stark, raw, and unflinching. Zhu Wen’s debut feature confronts reality with a startling directness rarely seen in Chinese cinema of its time. Blurring tenderness and brutality, despair and dark humor, the film captures a fragile, uneasy dance between two souls — one bent on escape, the other unwilling to let go.
《海鲜》用DV拍摄，并在完成后转成胶片。《海鲜》在2001年的威尼斯国际电影节首映，并获得“当代电影单元的”“银狮奖”，并在第二年的柏林国际电影节“青年论坛”展映 。
由于各种原因，该片并未按照朱文的意图最后完成，除了少量电影节放映之后，影片也一直没有传播。最近，导演朱文终于完成数字修复，以补全当年所有缺失的工作。这将是是该电影第一次完整跟观众见面。
影片編劇和導演朱文，主演金子，攝影劉勇宏，作曲楊海崧將出席首映。
影片介紹：
冬天的北戴河冰封雪裹，游客稀少，形同一座空城。在北京做小姐的小梅，和男朋友闹矛盾，一气之下只身来到北戴河决定自杀。由于一次意外，她和当地警察邓建国遭遇，后者发现了她的自杀企图。邓建国请小梅吃海鲜，劝说她不要做蠢事，并一路尾随，用他粗暴的方式坚决阻止她自杀。小梅在北戴河自杀不成，又逃往山海关准备自杀，结果又被邓某追回。小梅和邓某的关系变得微妙起来。最后小梅失手开枪打死了邓建国，重新回到北京，继续她的妓女生涯。
