The IndieChina Film Festival is now officially open for submissions for its 2025 edition, inviting filmmakers from around the world to submit films that explore the diverse, bold, and independent spirit of Chinese cinema.
As one of the few international festivals dedicated exclusively to Chinese independent films, IndieChina is a vital platform for filmmakers working outside the commercial mainstream. We welcome narrative features, documentaries, short films, experimental works, and hybrid genres that reflect creative freedom, critical engagement, and artistic risk-taking.
What We’re Looking For
The IndieChina Film Festival seeks films that challenge convention and illuminate underrepresented stories related to Chinese society, culture, identity, or diaspora.
We strongly encourage submissions from first-time filmmakers, student directors, grassroots storytellers, and those whose voices have historically been marginalized. Whether your film tackles social realities, explores cultural memory, or pushes formal boundaries, we want to see your work.
Why Submit to IndieChina?
Selected films will be featured in a curated lineup screened both in-person in New York city, reaching a global audience of cinephiles, scholars, activists, and fellow filmmakers. The festival also offers the opportunity to participate in post-screening Q&As, panel discussions, and networking events.
As an artist-driven, nonprofit festival, IndieChina is committed to fostering meaningful connections, not just showcasing films. Each selected filmmaker will receive individual attention, translation support (if needed), and promotional visibility across our platforms.
Submission Guidelines
- Films must be independently produced.
- All genres and formats are welcome.
- Submissions must include English subtitles if not in English.
- Preference is given to works completed within the last 3 years.
Deadlines
- Regular Deadline: August 15, 2025
How to Submit
Submissions can be made through IndieChina Submission Form. Please include a short synopsis, director bio, and screener link. There are no submission fees.
